BIO-CATHARANTIN EFFECTS ON PHENOTYPIC TRAITS AND CHROMOSOME NUMBER OF SHALLOTS (ALLIUM CEPA L. VAR. ASCALONICUM 'TAJUK')

چکیده

The seasonal production of Allium cepa var. ascalonicum causes a rise in its demand during the off-season. Consumers mostly prefer onion cultivars like 'Super Philip', because their high productivity, large and round bulbs, shiny appearance, less spicy taste. In plant breeding, polyploidy induction through mutagens is technique often used to produce shallot better quality. Bio-Catharantin from leaf extract Catharanthus roseus L. as polyploid agent instead colchicine. latest study aimed determine effect concentration (0.2% 0.4%) on phenotypic traits (plant height, bulb mass, number bulbs), chromosome minimum that could cause polyploidization shallots. research was conducted December 2020 February 2021 greenhouse Madurejo, Prambanan, Laboratory Genetics Breeding, Faculty Biology, Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia. did not affect height which comparable with control. Both treatments caused an increase mass up 37.7 41.76 g at concentrations 0.2% 0.4%, respectively, compared control (31.47 g). bulbs increased 10.6 9.8 for 0.4% concentrations, 8.8 ploidy level cells 2n (16) 3n (24) 2% 4n (32) 4% Bio-Catharantin.

Quercetin from shallots (Allium cepa L. var. aggregatum) is more bioavailable than its glucosides.

The lipophilic character of quercetin suggests that it can cross enterocyte membranes via simple diffusion. Therefore, it should be more bioavailable than its glucosides, which require preliminary hydrolysis or active transport for absorption. However, the published human studies show that quercetin is less bioavailable than its glucosides. Assuming that low bioavailability of quercetin aglycon...

TLC determination of flavonoids from different cultivars of Allium cepa and Allium ascalonicum.

This study comprises the optimization and validation of a new TLC method for determination of flavonols in the bulbs of seven cultivars of onions and shallots. Separation was performed on RP-18 plates with the solvent mixture tetrahydrofuran/water/formic acid (40+60+6, V/V/V) as a mobile phase. The method was evaluated for precision, linearity, LOD, LOQ, accuracy and robustness. Chromatographic...

Effects of Cadmium Stress on Root Tip Cells and Some Physiological Indexes in Allium Cepa Var . Agrogarum L .

Allium cepa var. agrogarum L. seedlings grown in nutrient solution were subjected to increasing concentrations of Cd2+ (0, 1, 10, 100 μM). Variation in tolerance to cadmium toxicity was studied based on chromosome aberrations, nucleoli structure and reconstruction of root tip cells, Cd accumulation and mineral metabolism, lipid peroxidation, and changes in the antioxidative defense system (SOD,...

Risk Evaluation of Industrial Wastewater on Plants Using Onion (allium Cepa L.) Chromosome Aberration Assay

Rapid strides in industrialization coupled with incomplete sewage treatment system have led to indiscriminate discharge of potentially mutagenic wastewater into agricultural lands and water bodies. The response of Onion plant genetic material to the presence of potential cytotoxic and genotoxic substances in the environment was used to evaluate the toxicity of chemical effluent collected from a...
